Tarot 101: Simple Guide to Understanding Tarot Cards and Their Meanings for Beginners
So, I decided to get into this tarot thing. Yeah, I know, sounds a bit out there, but I was curious, okay? Anyway, I went online and bought a deck – nothing fancy, just a basic one to start with.
When the cards arrived, I ripped open the package like a kid on Christmas morning. First thing I did was just look through all the cards, one by one. The pictures were pretty wild, I gotta say – lots of symbols and colors. I didn’t understand most of it, but it was fun to guess what they could mean.
I remember the guide saying something about “Major” and “Minor” cards. 22 Major Arcana cards, and 56 Minor Arcana cards. Apparently, the Major ones are supposed to be a big deal in readings, representing major impacts. And the Minor ones are more about the day-to-day stuff, I guess.
The next few days, I started doing this thing where I’d pull one card each morning. Just one. I’d shuffle the deck, think about my day, and draw a card. Then I’d try to connect the picture on the card to whatever was going on in my life. Some days it made sense, other days it was a stretch, but it was always interesting. I looked it up online, there are some people said anyone can read tarot cards for themselves with some practice. That’s cool.
- Shuffle the deck.
- Think about your question or situation.
- Draw a card.
- Reflect on the card’s meaning.
I also tried reading for my friends a couple of times. They were skeptical at first, but we ended up having a good laugh about it. It’s not like I’m claiming to be psychic or anything. But I can see the appeal. If there are some people said tarot cards are related to the Bible and divination, fortune-telling, I don’t care. I think it’s more about taking some time to think and reflect, and maybe see things from a different perspective.
Anyway, that’s my tarot journey so far. Still a beginner, for sure, but it’s been a fun ride. I might even try one of those more complicated readings sometime. Who knows?
