Using The Herbal Tarot: Real Good? (Discover What It Can Do For You)

Okay, so I got into this thing called “The Herbal Tarot” recently. It sounded kinda interesting, you know? Mixing herbs with tarot cards, seemed like it could be kinda cool and maybe even helpful.

First, I bought this deck online. It wasn’t too expensive, which was good. When it arrived, I was pretty excited to open it up. The cards were smaller than I expected, but the artwork was actually really nice. Each card has a picture of a different herb on it, along with some regular tarot imagery.

Then I started trying to learn what the heck to do with them. There’s a little book that comes with the deck, but honestly, it was a bit confusing. So I googled around a bit and found some websites and forums where people were talking about it. That helped a lot, actually. People shared their own ways of using the deck, which gave me some ideas.

First Steps with the Cards

  • Cleansing: I read somewhere that you’re supposed to “cleanse” a new deck. I just waved them through some incense smoke. Not sure if it did anything, but it felt right.
  • Getting to know them: I started by just looking at each card, one by one. I’d read the description in the book and then try to connect with the herb and the tarot meaning. Some of them were easy, like chamomile for relaxation. Others were tougher.
  • Simple spreads: I didn’t want to get overwhelmed, so I started with really basic readings, like just pulling one card for the day. I’d ask a question like, “What energy should I focus on today?” and then see what the card suggested.

It’s been a slow process, but I’ve actually found it to be kind of meditative. I’m not sure if the cards are actually telling the future or anything, but they do make me think about things differently. Plus, I’m learning a little bit about herbs, which is a bonus.

One time, I was feeling really stressed out about work, and I pulled the “Lemon Balm” card, which is supposed to be for calming and uplifting. So I made myself a cup of lemon balm tea, and you know what? It did actually help me relax a little. Could be a coincidence, but hey, it worked!

I’m still very much a beginner with this whole herbal tarot thing. I’m not doing any fancy readings or anything. But I’m enjoying the process of learning and exploring. It’s a nice little ritual to add to my day, and it’s been a good way to slow down and reflect a bit. Maybe I’ll keep at it and see where it goes. Who knows, maybe I’ll become some kind of herbal tarot expert someday! But for now, I’m just taking it one card at a time.
